The recent demolition of the N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad, a property owned by prominent actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, has sparked significant controversy and public interest. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) authorities initiated the demolition, citing illegal encroachment on government land, specifically within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of the Thammidikunta Lake in Madhapur. This action, however, Telangana High Court, which issued an immediate stay on the demolition and public statements that have further complicated the situation.
The Allegations and Demolition Drive
The N-Convention Centre, spread over 10 acres, has long been under scrutiny for its location. Official records from the North Tank Division indicate that the Thammidikunta Lake’s FTL covers approximately 29.24 acres. Allegedly, the N-Convention Centre encroached upon about 1.12 acres within the FTL area and an additional 2 acres within the lake's buffer zone. These matter have led to claims that the centre was constructed illegally, bypassing necessary regulatory approvals.

On a recent Saturday morning, HYDRA officials, backed by a substantial police presence, commenced the demolition of the N-Convention Centre. The operation was part of a broader initiative to remove illegal constructions encroaching on water bodies and public lands in Telangana. This drive, which had previously targeted illegal structures around Gandipet Lake, was aimed at reclaiming encroached land to protect the city's natural resources.

Nagarjuna’s Response and Legal Battle
In response to the demolition, Nagarjuna expressed his dismay and frustration, labeling the demolition as "unlawful". He stated that the action was contrary to existing stay orders and ongoing court cases. The actor quickly moved to the Telangana High Court, which issued an interim stay on the demolition later that day. Nagarjuna's legal team argued that the demolition was carried out without prior notice and based on misinformation.

Nagarjuna's public statement emphasized that the land on which the N-Convention Centre was built is Patta land, which, according to him, was legally acquired and did not encroach upon any tank or lake plan. The actor is now seeking appropriate legal recourse to address what he describes as wrongful actions by the authorities.
