In a shoking incident that has captured public attention in Bihar, an 18-year-old boy, Mithlesh Manjhi, was arrested for faking as Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. This extraordinary case unfolded in Jamui district, where Manjhi flaunted a police uniform and a toy pistol, claiming to be a trainee IPS officer.
According to police reports, Mithlesh Manjhi, a resident of Govardhan Bigha village, paid a total of Rs. 2 lakh to a local con artist named Manoj Singh. In exchange, he received a complete IPS uniform and a badge, mistakenly believing this would secure him a legitimate position within the police force. With high hopes, he set out to showcase his new “rank”, even riding a bike valued at around Rs. 2 lakh.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing Manjhi in Sikandra Chowk, where his unusual behavior attracted a crowd. Sensing something amiss, local residents alerted the police. Upon arrival, officers found Manjhi proudly declaring, “I am an IPS officer”.
Upon questioning, the teen admitted that he had borrowed the money from his maternal uncle to pay Singh, who had promised him a police job. During his testimony, he described how Singh had taken his measurements and handed over the uniform and toy pistol outside a local school.
A viral video captured the moment police apprehended Manjhi, showcasing the absurdity of the situation as he surrendered his toy weapon. Jamui Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satish Suman confirmed the arrest, stating, “We are investigating the claims made by Manjhi and exploring the possibility of a larger job racket”.
